Cann-ID is a simplified, standardized, and scalable software solution that captures important chemical data and analytics in a cloud-based decentralized network. Cann-ID merges the best elements of Agricultural Technology, Financial Technology, and Regulatory Technology into one powerful platform.
This review explains the features of Cann-ID and displays how simple it is to submit a cannabis potency sample for analysis utilizing Cann-ID. Additionally, this article will explain how to use the powerful, data-sharing features of the Cann-ID platform to obtain rapid potency results for fourteen cannabinoids.
Analyze a New Sample
When analyzing a new sample, users input data into multiple form options provided on the Cann-ID software. This feature enables the software to acquire more details about the sample being submitted. The information collected via Cann-ID is as follows:
- Sample Number - also referenced as a batch ID, lot number, or other unique ID associated with a given sample.
- Strain Name/Sample Name
- Weight (MG) - measured to the hundredths decimal (2 spaces to the right of the decimal point) Material Type - Including, but lot limited to:
- Vape Oil
- Preparation Method - Sample Preparation Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
- Notes (if applicable)
Once all sample data has been entered into the Cann-ID 'Analyze a New Sample' Landing page the sample is added to the sample list where it can be then added to the sample queue. Users can either continue registering multiple samples or finish submitting sample(s) on the queue. Once all relevant data is collected for the sample(s) the Cann-ID system prepares for potency analysis.
Add Samples to the Queue
The queue is the database where all sample results are stored. Users can search for results by batch number, strain/sample name, or sample weight.
Here, on the 'Test Results' landing page, submitted samples can be added to the run queue. Users can click on the green "plus" button to add sample information to the current run queue. Once a sample has been added to the 'run queue', the fully prepared sample will then undergo analysis via the HPLC.
Users can also delete samples that have been created but not run yet by clicking the red 'X' button next to the 'add to queue' green plus button.
To the left of the red 'X' are the two green sharing buttons. One button downloads testing results as a .PDF file, the other button downloads results as a .CSV file. The blue 'edit' button allows users to edit sample information only if the sample has not been run yet.
Start Testing Sequence
The picture above shows the landing page in which the test sequence(s) are displayed and subsequently will be run. The left side of the screen displays the samples that have been added to the run queue. This display includes the sample's unique ID and sample name used to distinguish each of the samples. The sequence table on the right represents a vial tray compatible with the Agilent 1220 Infinity HPLC Autosampler.
The blue and yellow circles present on the left side of the sequence board are representative of the blue and yellow vials that are injected into the Agilent 1220 HPLC Autosampler with two varying dilutions. These vials, prepared during the sample preparation process, are the vials that the instrument injects to produce sample data results.
On the right-hand side of the table, there are light blue circles. These represent the standard wash vials. These vials are used between sample runs to clean the HPLC's sample needle to prevent cross-contamination between runs.
Once the "Start" button is clicked, the run sequence will begin and the HPLC autosampler will perform analysis on all samples that are present in the queue. Once the run has been complete the Cann-ID software system will quickly configure the data into an easy-to-understand graph coupled with calculated analytical data.
View Sample Results
After the instrument has finished the sample run, the Cann-ID software presents a full cannabinoid potency analysis of fourteen separate cannabinoids. Cann-ID composes a beautifully-detailed format of the sample(s) results. This data is stored within the cloud-based network and will be readily available in the sample database.
Once the sample is clicked, the results page will appear and the newly-generated sample details can be viewed quickly and effectively.
The data is presented in both a pie chart and bar graph that shows the key dominant cannabinoids within the sample. This data is automatically generated by the software and eliminates the need for manual data interpretation.

Below the visual graphs is a formatted data table that displays the numeric values available for each cannabinoid.
This table presents the array of fourteen different cannabinoids with their respective concentration (if detected).
Cannabinoid details are displayed in percentage and a milligram/gram ratio. This data is also associated with its respective limit of quantification (LOQ).
As mentioned previously, Cann-ID is equipped with easy-to-use data export options. By clicking the "Share" button on the sample details page, a window pops up allowing the user to either copy and paste a sharable link, or to have the result sent directly via email.
